Imagine this: classic Canadian work boots, reimagined and meticulously handcrafted in a historic Italian workshop nestled amidst the breathtaking Apennine Mountains. That's the magic of the Yuketen Made in Italy collection, a testament to Director Yuki Matsuda's vision of blending global influences into exceptional footwear.
Traditional Craft: Goodyear Welt Construction
The Yuketen Canadian Work Boots are crafted using the classic Goodyear Welt method, in which a channel is cut into the leather insole and the welt is stitched directly into it. This is the original form of Goodyear Welt construction, dating back to the 19th century, and it requires extraordinary skill and labor.
Today, most factories have abandoned this process for the following reasons:
-Cost reduction: Cutting a channel and hand-stitching the welt is time-consuming and not suitable for mass production.
-Speed and efficiency: Attaching fabric or synthetic gemming to the insole and stitching the welt onto it is faster and cheaper.
-Decline of craftsmanship: Craftsmen capable of executing this method have become increasingly rare worldwide.
By preserving this technique, Yuketen stands as one of the very few makers that continue to protect a nearly lost craft, offering durability and reassurance that mass production cannot provide.
