Buzz Rickson's Loopwheel Crewneck Sweatshirt Oatmeal

Type: Knitwear

Originally made from wool knit fabric, the sweatshirt transformed into cotton material with a looped, brushed-back interior, evolving into the "sweat-absorbing shirt" that became a staple of daily wear for Americans. Military and officer academies, which incorporated rigorous training into their routines, were quick to adopt it, and it soon became available at base shops across the country. The fabric is still made using the same tubular loopwheel knitting machines as in the past, which knit with uneven tension to create a material with unique flexibility. The seams are made with a four-needle flatlock stitch, commonly used for undergarments. The V-shaped gusset is sewn with ribbed material on top of the body fabric, a technique known as the "stitched-down V."
